Quiz 1 will cover all the content from the beginning of the class up to and including Lecture 10.
Logistics
- In-person here in our normal classroom during class time (students with testing accommodations should register for an appointment at the testing center!)
- Taken on the Lockdown Browser on your personal computer; details on how to set it up are on our Canvas page
- If you cannot connect your computer to eduroam, notify Prof. Bain ASAP
- Make sure to bring your Wildcard to class and have it easily accessible
- A full length practice quiz (not graded) will be available on Canvas 1 week before the quiz
- there’s also tips on how to use a Practice Quiz effectively
- there will be two versions: one that requires the Lockdown Browser (so you can test that you’ve got it setup correctly) and one that does not so you can take it and refer to other resources as you study
- As early as possible, setup the LDB and use it to open the assignment `Practice Quiz 1a (LDB)` to verify that everything works correctly on your computer
- We’ll do additional review on Monday in-class (which will count as a Mini-Quiz)
- There’s also individual subject practice quizzes (some with generated questions you can take more than once) available on the Quizzes tab of our Canvas page
Style and Content
The questions will be more like the practice quizzes on Canvas and more akin to the Mini-Quizzes than the homework exercises. This is because the homework exercises are designed to take a larger amount of time than, for example, the shorter problems we tackle in class. That being said, as you’ll see in Practice Quiz 1a, there will be questions that depend on you having completed the Exercise assignments by yourself. If you relied heavily on other’s help to complete the Exercises, you should revisit those assignments and make sure you understand them and could complete them by yourself!
Other Study Materials
- Study Guide: the highlighted functions you should be able to use without any reminders about their parameters.
- Short practice topic-quizzes, some of which have generated questions (i.e. you can take them many times).
- Full Length (+ a little more) Practice Quiz 1a on Canvas
- LDB Version which perfectly emulates what things will look like for the real deal
- I might even post a second practice exam at the beginning of Week 5…
- Checkout the recommended readings on each lecture page
- Don’t like how I explain things? A past TA for the course recorded a “crash course” video for review. Check it out if you want another look at things.
- Talking to Python (Roughly Lectures 3 - 8)
