P1 Grading Guide
Step 0. View Grading Assignments here. Two important things: the CODE and the VIDEO are two separate submissions. That means the maximum number of points you should give for the CODE assignment is 37 + 6 points of extra credit (hard cap at 6) = 43 points. You do not need to total the scores between VIDEO and CODE. I’ll take care of that.
Step 1. In your row, open up the VIDEO assignment for that group. Go through each student. As long as they submitted a video they get 3 points for that assignment. You don’t need to actually watch the video unless you run into an issue with the student’s animation where the video might be helpful. Just treat them as separate assignments.
Step 2. Review the full rubric here (you’ll need this open for the animation options). You do NOT need to worry about the “on-time” extra credit or late penalties; I’ll take care of that.
Step 3. Get ready to grade the code. First, I highly recommend cleaning-up your downloads folder (just put everything in there in a new folder called archive). Then download the two attached files. Open and run the install_pillow.py file in your IDE of choice (note, highly recommend using IDLE for this because VSCode does some weird directory stuff). Once it’s finished. You’re ready to grade!
Step 4. Click on the CODE url for your row. For each student you’ll be greeted with a speed grader window (see first screenshot).
- The first thing you need to do is download their submission (use the link underneath the “Submitted Files” header). Then, while you open the downloaded PY file in your IDE go ahead and click on the VIEW RUBRIC button. The window will change to show you the rubric for the assignment (see second screenshot).
- ALL GRADING AND COMMENTS WILL GO IN THE RUBRIC. You can find more detail on each rubric item either on the course page rubric or by clicking on the “view longer description” links. For the animation options in particular, make sure to put a comment saying which animation option counts for which Criteria. Additionally don’t forget to put a number of points in the right hand point column.
- Once you are done, don’t forget to click SAVE at the bottom of the window. It’s very hard to change rubric assessments after the fact so please be careful when grading. When you click save, you should see the student’s score update on the assignment.
- You’re now done with this assignment! Move on to the next student in your group via the right arrow at the top right hand corner of the screen.
- Once you’ve completed all the students in that group, make sure to check the box on the grading assignments sheet for that row.
